• We believe that writing is a wonderfully complex skill that requires diligent practice, competent guidance, and consistent encouragement.

• We believe that excellent writing only comes through attention to the process. Excellence is almost never attained in a first draft, but through repeated revisions and careful proofreading.

• We believe that the role of a Writing Coach is to both encourage and correct, and that identifying what a student has done well is as helpful as identifying what he has done wrong.

• We believe that corrective feedback is most beneficial when it looks for trends and tendencies and focuses on one or two areas at a time. It is not necessary or helpful to identify every mistake in student writing.

• We believe that writing is a uniquely human and individual activity; therefore, personal instruction by gifted coaches will never be effectively replaced by computerized assessment programs.
