Carrie McCarty-Gibson
When Carrie was a student, an assignment to write brought her to tears, stomachaches and heart palpitations. She figured there had to be a better way to teach writing so she became a writing teacher. Although she began teaching in middle and high schools, she transitioned to homeschooling as she was captivated by watching her oldest child delight in learning. No set curriculum met the needs and interests of her seven very different children so she developed curriculum for them. Over the twenty-five years she has homeschooled, she has taught varied forms of writing and literature in co-ops, as well as, tutored out of her home. Currently, she facilitates an online support group for parents of children with learning challenges.
She uses a gentle approach to build confidence and allow students to write without feeling overwhelmed. She aims to help students find their personal style and voice to create writing which effectively communicates their own thoughts and ideas.
Carrie currently resides in Maryland where she enjoys listening to the birds as she sips her morning coffee and treasures walks in the woods with her children and grandchildren.
