WriteAtHome American History is a college preparatory history class that focuses on: 

  • The History of English Settlement in North America and their interaction with Native cultures and the Pre-Revolutionary Period

  • The U.S. War for Independence and the formation of the U.S. Government and the Federalist Period and the Age of the Democratic Republicans

  • Andrew Jackson and the Pre-Civil War and Civil War and Reconstruction Era and the Age of Industry

  • The 20th Century 

This class will examine complex historical cause and effect through historical narrative, examination of primary sources, and examination of special topics (geography, population and demographics, industrialization, political development, economics, religion). 

This class meets on Wednesdays at 3 pm, Eastern Standard Time.

All class sessions will be recorded. Class size is limited to 50 students.

  • • Watch class lecture video before attending class

    • Weekly online class session

    • Weekly discussion topic based on primary source reading

    • Weekly quiz based on the lecture

    • 1 U.S. historical figure paper

    • 1 Persuasive/Position paper that uses at least one primary source, OR primary source analysis paper from approved list

  • A History of the American People by Paul Johnson (not provided)

    • Primary sources will be given as online links in the weekly reading assignments pages.

  • Students have access to recorded lectures from their course.

    Students will not have live classes or teacher support.

    All recordings will be available from September 2 thru the end of August.
